    Mumps Outbreak Guidance for Parents

An outbreak of mumps has been reported in Washington state (not our district). Most of the cases are in King County, but there are also cases in several other counties, with a probable case of mumps in an adult in Thurston County.  Many people infected with mumps are contagious before and after symptoms show up, so they can spread the virus without realizing it.

We want to make sure our students are well protected against mumps.  The MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine is the best protection we have against mumps.  All students attending school are required to have two doses of MMR vaccine to be in compliance.  If an outbreak does occur at our school, students who are not in compliance or have an exemption, may be excluded from school.

For the most up-to-date information, please visit   www.doh.wa.gov/mumps.

    Thank you
